What is Sauntering?

Saunter

/ˈsôn(t)ər/

A slower, more intentional way of moving through the world.

The word saunter has long been associated with wandering without urgency or destination — moving gently, attentively, and with curiosity.

John Muir once wrote:

“Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not hike through them.”

At Saunterly, sauntering is less about where you’re going and more about how you arrive to the moment along the way.

What You Can Expect

Gentle guided experiences rooted in presence, reflection, and connection outdoors.

Space to walk slowly, notice deeply, and engage authentically — without pressure or expectation.

An invitation to reconnect with yourself, others, and the natural world.

Why Nature?

Nature has a way of softening the noise we carry. Slowing down outdoors can create space for reflection, regulation, connection, and perspective in ways that are often difficult to access elsewhere.

Held by the High Desert by Heather McKendry

  • With deep sadness
    Tear stained cheeks
    I bring my grief
    dismay
    confusion
    to the Forest

    Each time
    I saunter

    I see the rich underbelly
    the web, the wonder
    of Life
    Love

    That holds me.

    We dance together.

    Moss. Mushrooms. Dirt.
    Branches. Roots. Birds.
    Wind. Bugs. Grass.
    Stars. Moon. Clouds. And Me.
    All there.
    Together.

    Colors. Sounds. Smells.

    Exchanging Grace.
    Care.

    We connect.
    Understanding.
    Emergence.
    Changed.
    Softer.
    Truthful.
    Uncomfortable, yet comforted.

    And so I go
    to the Forest
    again and again -
    to listen.

Go Saunterly and be with the Trees
